In Character Information
character name: Shion (or Sion depending on spelling preference between translations I suppose)
Fandom: No. 6
Timeline: No. 6 Episode 11, End of Anime after Shion and Nezumi part ways and Shion returns to No. 6
character's age: 16
powers, skills, pets and equipment: Shion has a rather large IQ, as stated several times in the series, and is skilled with mathematics and other miscellaneous facts thanks to his upbringing in the upper class District of No. 6. Pets he would have with him would include Hamlet and Tsukishiyo most likely as one is with him when he departs for No. 6 and the other is waiting with his mother when he arrives. Equipment would include basic supplies in a back pack and his gun.
He will also have basic healing abilities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._6#Plot,
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=12399Unfortunately the one decent looking wiki I could find had only this stated as Shion's history: "Shion grew up as an elite member of the No. 6 society. He lived with his mother in an upscale home until the age of 12 when he was stripped from his title for helping Nezumi escape. Since then, they lived in the suburbs of No. 6. His mother currently works as a baker, while he worked for the city until he was suspected of murdering his co-worker, thus arrested. He was about to be taken to a correctional facility until Nezumi rescued him and forced him out of the city.
Not too long after he began staying with Nezumi, Shion developed the warning signs of being infected by a parasite that had begun plaguing No. 6. He managed to survive because Nezumi extracted the parasite just in time; the infection did, however, leave permanent scars and other changes on his body. Since he made it out of the full effects of the infection, Shion believes that he can warn and help cure the city of it."
But I will attempt to expand up on his canon point from the given information. Basically, No. 6 is heavily controlled by it's governing body in comparison to the other 5 districts, as seen through Safu - Shion's friend who visits District 5 to study abroad. The people in that district are very carefree and laid back and her friends see her as very uptight and stiff, product of her No. 6 upbringing. I will expand more on this aspect of Shion's own personality in another part of the app. During Shion's time in the outside area beyond No. 6, he lives with Nezumi while the two stay hidden from No. 6 when he escapes for being considered a "dissenter" and an anarchist for his doubts about No. 6's information accuracy and suspecting them of withholding information from the public. This began as early as the age of 12, when he found Nezumi and saved him from a serious injury caused by people chasing him from the government. Shion and his mother are forced to move out of their upscale home as a result of this and he is forced to drop out of a genius level study program that he would have taken with Safu had he not done this. As the plot goes on, the boys discover there is more to No. 6 than meets the eye and that a mysterious entity called Elyrius is working behind the scenes to thwart the government.
personality: In contrast to how Nezumi is often described, Shion is often described as kind. He’s quiet, but smart enough to dissect almost any situation quickly and rationally, even if sometimes that is not what is needed for a situation - a trait that Nezumi often teases him for having. He is polite and well mannered and more often than not will have a goofy smile plastered on his face. When we first meet Shion it is 4 years prior to the main storyline. At 12 years old Shion has been given the best upbringing society can offer; living in a well off neighborhood, attending a prestigious school with other equally intelligent children - such as his friend, Safu - and he is well on his way to entering the gifted student program with her in which he would be selected to study abroad in No. 5. While studying is something Safu thrived with, Shion was nothing but apathetic to his life i No. 6, even if he loved his city and the people in it it did not change that something was missing for him and that he questioned the life being spoon fed to him by the government, even at that age. Everything changed when he met Nezumi. As early as episode 1, Shion is seen standing out during a rain storm, windows open, and instinctively he screams his head off - almost as if he's crying out for change. That is when Nezumi found him. Nezumi broke into his home and attempted to intimidate and threaten him, only to be brushed off and given medical treatment for a bullet wound he'd received. An act that didn't even phase Shion, given his willingness to always be helpful to others, had a profound effect on the other boy that would solidify their friendship.
Unfortunately no good deed goes unpunished, as Shion soon learned. Nezumi was in fact a "VC" or a fugitive on the run from No. 6's government. Shion was immediately held accountable for his kindness in giving medical treatment, food and shelter to a criminal. He takes complete responsibility for himself stating his reason for helping him as "he was just a boy like me." This act of kindness would help Shion later on.
Fast forward four years and Shion is 16 working as a park security guard. He has settled down in a lower class living complex and given up any aspirations of studying abroad like Safu. Shion saw what he did for Nezumi as more just and logical than turning him in, though he couldn't explain that to Safu when grilled for details why he was disqualified from the program.
Before she leaves him, she tells him to have sex with her much to his confusion and he tells her he doesn't see her that way. This displays his recurring inability to sense social cues or understand things like flirting or when someone is making a joke at his expense - though that is obviously not the case with Safu, Nezumi does so quite frequently and it results in going completely over his head. Shion is often described as flighty or absent minded by Nezumi, contrasting with his typical quick wit and intelligence. The time between then and when he see's Nezumi again happens in quick succession. A strange death occurs while he and his coworker are checking security cameras in the park he works at and when no mentions of the man are made after the government steps in to handle the situation, Shion begins to question their motives. This results in a trigger for the bee infecting his coworker and kills him almost instantly. Shion's words are recorded and he is taken into custody as a dissenter, much to his horror.
Nezumi often times has to push him into accepting a situation when it has turned bad; examples being: when he first is faced with abandoning No. 6 and leaving his mother and again when the bee's infectious poison threatens to kill him and Nezumi has to yell at him to keep him from giving up and dying. When Shion is forced to settle down in West Block, Nezumi keeps him at arm’s length when his inquisitive nature kicks in and he starts asking questions and wants to get to know Nezumi better. Some how, Shion is able to get him to open up to him in emotional capacity, even if it's not about his past it is still important to make note of, given Nezumi's established standoffish personality. Only Shion is able to break that shell. In episode 4, after witnessing Shion and Nezumi arguing about naming the mice, Inukashi mentions to Shion that Nezumi’s interactions with Shion are not typical, that he doesn’t show his emotion if he doesn’t have to. This surprises him, as he was only aware that Nezumi was often angry or short with him and he begins to learn quickly that there is a reason to it and that often times Nezumi does not react this way to others.
Shion is initially baffled and awed by the sheer number of books Nezumi keeps in his home, having never even read the classics given that they are banned in No. 6. He has little to no knowledge of literature unless it was allowed in the gifted program, but he is still, however, on par with Nezumi as far as knowledge of technology and electronics.
Shion, despite being cast out from No. 6, puts others first and still wants to help the people of No.6 in their impending plight with the bees that threaten to kill everyone. His view is that he can create some sort of antidote since his body seems to have formed antibodies to the poison but is brushed off and told to cast the people of No. 6 aside by Nezumi, as well as his sentimental feelings of home. Shion has a naïve and idealistic outlook that confuses and infuriates Nezumi, while he himself sees the world in black and white.
Shion is generally not a violent or angry person, but has been known to lose his temper or get flustered on occasion. The only time he's ever
really lost his temper and actively committed violence was near the end of the anime when he mercilessly shoots a No. 6 official in the torso and finally in the head because he was threatening to harm Nezumi. This shocks and upsets the other boy who wishes for Shion to remain his sweet airhead self, despite on several occasions of commenting how annoying it was that he had this outlook to begin with.
In the West Block there isn’t a lot of food, so it’s not uncommon for people to have very little to eat on a daily basis. In episode 5, when Shion offers little Karan and Rico some leftover soup, little Karan first turns it down and once the two children leave Nezumi explains that random acts of charity have no place in the West Block. He knows that if he helps once, he’ll have to help all the time. Since he can’t help all the time because he and Shion have little to eat themselves, it’s better not to offer at all. Little Karan knows this, even if she’s a child, and politely refuses. Shion struggles with lessons like these regularly, contrasting with his giving nature.
It is established by episode 6, when Nezumi receives the letter from Karan that Safu has been apprehended and taken to the correctional facility, that Shion does not like being lied to or having the truth withheld. It is also shown that Shion will rush headlong into danger to save someone he loves, despite the danger to his own life.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? 1) There is a Nezumi already in game so YAY 2) Shion is the type of guy who will tackle whatever is thrown a him. Initially he will have a freak out moment but then he will approach the situation calmly and then from a scientific/logical stand point. Kind of like "Oh, well this is strange I wonder how I got here I think I will explore" type deal. He's a nerd.
Writing Samples
Network Post Sample: Test Drive Entry - ScorchedThird Person Sample:Shion was comfortable - more so than he would expect to be, sharing a bed with Nezumi. He normally was a deep sleeper compared to his room mate. Sighing, he rolls over onto his stomach from his side, wrapping his arms around the pillow. His white hair was a mess from sleep and he was wearing his usual bed attire - his underwear to be more specific. Instinctively, he realized something was off after several minutes of allowing himself to get comfortable again. Groggily, he opens one scarlet eye and casts his sleepy gaze out across his pillow. Instead of seeing Nezumi like he expected, he saw only the other side of his bed. It wasn't really
his bed. The bed was a simple double and the room wasn’t large, but not small either. It reminded him of the rooms in Inukashi’s hotel, when it had been more than just ruins for vagabonds to sleep.
"Mm?" He lifts his head up a bit, looking about the room he was currently occupying. There was an absence of the familiar stacks of books and tall bookshelves that normally lined the walls of their tiny living space. Then, it came back to him. He wasn't in West Block anymore to begin with. He'd gone home to No. 6 hadn't he? Yet, this was not his room either. Where was he? Feeling around in the dim light peeking in through the window, he tests the mattress' firmness, almost as if he's checking to see if it's actually real.
Had someone found him and taken him? Where was his mother? Was she alright? Eyes wide with panic, he rolls over onto his back, scrambling to crawl out of the bed he occupied only to fall almost flat on his face. Luckily he braced his fall with his forearms and hands. "Mom?!" A useless effort to call for her. If she wasn't here she wouldn't hear it.
He listened for footsteps, though he heard none. Taking a gulp of air, and trying to keep from panicking more than he already was, Shion extracts himself from the bed sheets tangled about his legs. Crawling to his knees, he stares down at the floor, fists in his lap. His eyes traced the pattern of his red scar where it was visible on his leg as he focused on the sound of his own breathing.
Taking a breath, he casts his gaze over at the door leading out of the room. It was closed, though he wasn’t sure from this distance if it was locked. From his observations he could tell the lock itself was inside the room. He wasn't a prisoner here? How odd. If he was a prisoner, he wasn’t being treated like one. Looking up he sees that there didn’t seem to be any cameras, either. Sighing shakily, he looks back down at his hands. What had he gotten himself into now?
"Mom... where are you?" No, he would not panic anymore. He would not cry either. He'd been through enough now that he was much stronger than this. Nezumi would yell at him for sure if he saw him like this. Scrambling to his feet, he pulls on clothes that were neatly left for him. They'd taken his clothes from home when they took him. His usual white shirt and blue cardigan and his pants were all there.
Looking out the window, he takes in the sights. He'd never seen a city like this before. It wasn't advanced in it's architecture the way No. 6 was. There were strange looking lamps and stone buildings that looked weathered and aged to greet him as he tried to master his worries.
"Where am I...?" Blinking back the headache that was coming on, Shion turns his gaze back to his room. On the end of the bed was a small communication device, different than what he'd worn in No.6 but a lot like a small computer with an LCD screen. Pocketing it, he pulls his arms into his coat, having found that with his clothes, and moves towards the door. He needed answers and he wasn't going to get any cooped up in this place.
Anything else? I am most excited to be apping here <3
